Post-travel Medical Care

Not every travel health concern ends when the trip does. Fever, persistent digestive symptoms, unexplained rashes, or fatigue after international travel can signal a travel-related or tropical illness — and diagnosis requires careful evaluation of your symptoms in relation to your recent and previous travel, including destinations, activities, and any preventive measures taken.

Skilled medical management is essential, and urgent if malaria or another serious disease is suspected. Malaria in particular can develop days to weeks after leaving a risk area, and fever following travel to a malaria region should always be evaluated promptly. Our clinicians’ decades of focus on travel medicine mean symptoms that might puzzle a general practice — because they stem from an infection rarely seen domestically — are evaluated in the right context here.

If you are concerned that you may have a travel-related or tropical illness, contact us for further information and advice on next steps. Please note that our offices are only open during standard business hours, Monday–Friday 9AM–5PM (except national holidays). During evening and weekend hours, if you are experiencing an acute or severe illness, you should contact your primary care provider or go to the nearest emergency room.
